It seems that there is no end to the inhumane treatment and cruelty towards the most vulnerable species on earth. Despite a global pandemic that poses a threat to our lives, people still fail to consider their actions. The Malaga Plant and Animal Protection Association (SPAPMA) is one example of an organization that has encountered difficult situations, leaving us to ponder. One such instance involves a 9-month-old mastiff that was found in the most horrific conditions.
Fortuitously, a kind neighbor in Puerto de la Torre, the capital of Malaga, heard the faint and pitiful cries of Ulises, the beloved puppy at the animal shelter. As she approached, she was shocked by what she saw – a poor puppy lying in a container amidst the wreckage, desperately seeking help as he struggled to take his last breaths. SPAPMA, an organization dedicated to animal welfare, was immediately informed of the critical state of the puppy. Ulises’ sorrowful demeanor is a testament to the hardships he has undergone. The shelter staff named him Ulysses after finding him in a container bound with rope. This information was shared on SPAPMA’s platform on June 4th.
Currently, at SOSCATYCAN, a veterinary hospital that is open 24 hours a day, there is a dog who is fighting for his life. He is in a critical condition, emaciated, anemic, and with multiple injuries. The dog urgently needs a blood transfusion and is receiving stabilization treatment at the hospital. It’s another sad example of the cruelty of some individuals towards animals. The veterinarians treating him initially had serious doubts about whether he would survive due to the extent of his injuries. They were appalled that such hatred and cruelty could exist in our world. They started by removing worms, fleas, ticks, and lice from his body and dressing him to help restore his body temperature. Although they were relieved that they had been able to stabilize him, they knew that the road to recovery would be long and challenging.
One day after the discovery, he expressed his disgust. However, their perception of him has transformed since he received a transfusion and was treated with serum, vitamins, and specialized food to revive him. Moreover, he has recuperated from hypothermia, primarily due to his resilient nature as a puppy who desires to survive, as stated by the president of the animal shelter. The rescuers were thrilled to witness him regain consciousness and consume solid food.
The progress of Ulysses was shared among them, and they were saddened by his small eyes that revealed how much he had suffered. However, the most important thing was that he received love and care, and every day he showed improvement. They were happy to witness his first stroll outside, and he enjoyed eating well and walking around, but his lack of muscle mass made him occasionally stumble and rest.
As SPAPMA’s story about Ulises’ cruel abuse spread like wildfire, so did the act of donating funds towards his recovery. The outpouring of support from hundreds of people who followed Ulises’ progress was heartening to see. On June 10, the announcement that Ulises had been released from the hospital and was en route to his foster home was cause for celebration. This development was made possible thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who contributed to Ulises’ well-being.
The angels who selflessly gave everything to heal Ulysses’ physical wounds and, more importantly, his wounded heart are truly appreciated. Thanks to them, he was able to completely change his fate. Let’s spread the word about this story to raise awareness and come together to stop these unspeakable actions against the most vulnerable members of our society! In other words, we must unite to put an end to such atrocities.
